Pray for the Departed Souls!!

“We have loved them during life; let us not abandon them in death, until we have conducted them by our prayers in the house of the Lord.” – St. Ambrose (d. 397)

In the month of November, the Church commemorates all her faithful children who have departed from this life. Christ’s mercy and love encompasses all people. He desires the salvation of all and so we come to Him with confidence that Christ will have mercy on all the departed souls.

The Church has always taught us to pray for those who have gone into eternity. In the Old Testament, prayers and alms were offered for the souls of the dead by those who thought “well and religiously concerning the resurrection.” It is believed that they who had fallen asleep with godliness had great grace laid up for them and that it is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead.

Pray for the Departed Souls

Throughout the month of November, we offer Mass each day for the departed souls. As Jesus commanded that the Mass be offered for all time so that the meaning of His death would never be forgotten, we offer Mass for our dear ones in the sure and certain knowledge that, because of Jesus’ death, they have eternal life.
